Use Wise (fastest, ~5 min), LuLu Exchange (cheapest, next-day), or Al Ansari (multiple options). Set up GCash if you haven't (free, 5 min in Philippines or via app). Send to the GCash mobile number. Confirm the phone number before sending — wrong number and it goes to a stranger's wallet.
What Is GCash?
GCash is a mobile wallet app used by 70+ million Filipinos. Money lands in the recipient's phone, not a bank account. They can spend it at merchants, withdraw at ATMs, or send to their bank account. It's ubiquitous in the Philippines — faster than waiting for a bank transfer.
Why send to GCash instead of a bank account?
- Instant delivery (within minutes, not hours or days)
- Recipient can access it immediately (no bank processing delay)
- Works for unbanked Filipinos (80+ million use GCash; fewer have bank accounts)
- Cheaper than some bank-specific routes
Why not?
- Daily limit (AED ~260–520 depending on verification level)
- Monthly limit (~AED 2,600 for basic users)
- Requires recipient to have a mobile number and GCash account
Step 1: Confirm Your Recipient Has GCash
Before sending a single dirham, ask your recipient:
- "Do you have a GCash account?"
- "What's your GCash phone number?"
If they don't have it, ask them to download the GCash app (free, 5 minutes to set up). They'll need a Philippine mobile number (even if they don't live in Philippines; they can use a friend's or a virtual number).
Don't send to a number you're unsure about. GCash doesn't require the sender to verify the recipient — if you send AED 500 to a wrong number, a stranger in the Philippines gets it. GCash has a dispute process, but recovery is slow.
Step 2: Choose Your Provider
Best for Speed: Wise
- Sends to GCash in minutes (usually 5–15 min)
- Needs UAE bank account linked
- Fee: AED 5–10 depending on amount
- Cut-off: None (24/7)
- Time: 5–30 min typical
- Catch: Wise requires a UAE bank account; if you don't have one, use another provider
Best for Cost: LuLu Exchange
- Sends to GCash next-day (or same-day if before 3:30 PM cut-off)
- Walk-in branch or app
- Fee: Usually AED 0–5
- Cut-off: 3:30 PM weekdays
- Time: 4–24 hours
Reliable All-Around: Al Ansari Exchange
- Same-day GCash delivery if sent before 4 PM
- Walk-in or app
- Fee: AED 2–8 (varies by branch)
- Cut-off: 4 PM weekdays
- Time: 4–18 hours
NOT Recommended for GCash:
- ❌ Western Union (GCash support limited; slower)
- ❌ Bank branches (only support bank-to-bank, not wallet)
Verdict: Wise if you want speed + have a UAE bank account. LuLu if you want cost + don't mind waiting overnight. Al Ansari if you want balance.
Step 3: Send the Money
Via Wise (Fastest)
- Download or log into Wise app
- Select "Send money"
- Select: From UAE (AED) → To Philippines (PHP)
- Choose "GCash" as payout method (not "bank account")
- Enter recipient's GCash phone number (starts with +63 or 09 if Philippine number)
- Enter amount (convert AED to PHP using Wise's live rate)
- Review fees (shown before you confirm)
- Confirm and send
- Money reaches in 5–30 min (check your recipient's GCash app)
Via LuLu Exchange (Cheapest)
- Walk into a LuLu Exchange branch (or use app if available in your area)
- Tell the teller: "Send to GCash Philippines"
- Provide recipient's name, GCash phone number, amount in AED, and your Emirates ID or passport
- Pay in cash or by debit card
- Get a receipt (keep it for reference)
- Money reaches next business day (if before 3:30 PM cut-off) or in 24–48 hours
Via Al Ansari Exchange (Balanced)
- Visit branch or use app
- Say: "Send to GCash Philippines"
- Provide recipient's full name, GCash phone number (+63 format), amount in AED, and your ID
- Pay (cash or card)
- Receive receipt
- Money reaches same-day or next-day (if before 4 PM cut-off)
GCash Wallet Limits: Don't Get Stuck
GCash has daily and monthly limits depending on verification level.
Unverified GCash User (Basic)
- Daily limit: ~AED 300 (PHP 1,500)
- Monthly limit: ~AED 1,500 (PHP 7,500)
Verified GCash User (KYC complete)
- Daily limit: ~AED 600 (PHP 3,000)
- Monthly limit: ~AED 3,000 (PHP 15,000)
Meaning: If you try to send AED 1,000 to an unverified GCash user, it will fail or the recipient can only receive AED 300 of it. Ask your recipient to verify their GCash account first (takes 5 min with ID).
Common Problems & Fixes
Problem 1: "Invalid number" or transfer bounces
- Cause: Wrong number format or number not linked to GCash
- Fix: Confirm the number with your recipient. Ask them to log into GCash and show you the number in their profile. Try sending to that exact number.
Problem 2: "Recipient's wallet full" or limit exceeded
- Cause: Recipient hit their daily/monthly GCash limit
- Fix: Ask them to verify their account (increases limit), or wait until next day/month for their limit to reset. Or they can withdraw existing GCash balance to free up space.
Problem 3: "Transfer pending" after 2 hours
- Cause: Could be network delay, provider queue, or GCash processing queue
- Fix: Wait 1 more hour. If still pending, contact the provider (Wise, LuLu, Al Ansari). They can check the status on their backend.
