How Western Union exchange rates work
Western Union quotes a rate that already includes a margin over the mid-market rate, on top of a sender-side fee. That traditional model means the 'rate' you see isn't the true rate between the two currencies — it's what you get after the company takes its cut. That's why we show the mid-market rate beside it above, so you can see the gap plainly.
When Western Union wins — and when it doesn't
Western Union's real strength is reach and speed: around 200 countries, and 'in minutes' cash pickup on many corridors. If you're sending somewhere unusual or the recipient needs cash immediately, it's often the option that actually supports it. But on a big, competitive corridor like Pakistan, exchange houses (LuLu, Al Ansari) and apps (Wise, Remitly) frequently deliver more rupees for the same dirhams — so compare the delivered amount before assuming WU is cheapest.
