Short answer: not in the UAE. WhatsApp has an in-chat payments feature, but it works in only a couple of countries, and the UAE isn't one of them. Here's what actually exists, why people still say they "send money on WhatsApp," and how to do it safely from here.
The short answer
You can't send money to someone through WhatsApp in the UAE. WhatsApp's built-in payment feature (WhatsApp Pay) is live for consumers in only a small number of markets — India and Singapore as of 2026 — where it runs on the country's own instant-payment rails. In India it uses UPI, with a per-transaction cap and no fee to the sender. Everywhere else, including the UAE, there's no native "send money" button in the app.
Coverage does change — Meta tests and withdraws markets over time — so it's worth re-checking, but as of now the UAE is not covered, and WhatsApp Pay doesn't do cross-border transfers even where it exists.
What WhatsApp Pay actually is
WhatsApp Pay isn't a money-transfer company. It's a thin layer on top of a country's own payment system, and it only works where WhatsApp has both plugged into local bank rails and holds the right regulatory approval. That's why it's limited to a few markets and can't be used for international transfers — you can't send money from a UAE number to a relative's WhatsApp abroad.
How people actually "send money over WhatsApp" from the UAE
When someone here says they sent money "over WhatsApp," they usually mean they used the chat to coordinate a transfer — sharing the recipient's bank details, a provider's link, or a confirmation screenshot — while the money itself moved through a licensed app or exchange house. That's completely normal. What matters is the rail underneath, not the chat.
One caution: WhatsApp is also where a lot of remittance scams start. Never send money to account details or a "special rate" someone messages you out of the blue, and don't hand cash to an individual who claims they'll pass it on for you. Use a licensed provider whose rate you can verify.
